Global specialty (re)insurance group Chaucer has been awarded the ‘bench strength’ award for its Reinsurance team in Gracechurch’s London Leading Underwriter Report 2022.
Two of the team’s underwriters, Mike Clifton, Head of US Casualty Treaty and Ryan Ward, Senior Class Underwriter, were ranked in the top three in the Reinsurance category, in second and third place, respectively. The pair were also rated in third and seventh place in the Underwriters’ Leading Underwriter category, out of a total 298 underwriters.
Chaucer was also recognised in the London’s Leading Female Underwriter category. Harriet Sharp, Head of Political Violence & Crisis Management was ranked in fifth place, whilst Deborah Wyatt (Head of Political Risk & Credit) placed tenth.
Chaucer was ranked in fifth place for the strength of its underwriting teams across all business lines.
Nicola Stacey, Chief Underwriting Officer at Chaucer says: “Chaucer’s strong performance in the London Leading Underwriter Report is a testament to the first-rate knowledge of the market, technical skills and excellent client relationships that our underwriters possess.”
“Recruiting and helping nurture female talent is a key priority for Chaucer. In 2021 all senior external hires were women and women also represented a majority of hires across all levels last year. We’re thrilled to see the excellent results of our female underwriters recognised by their peers in the market.”
2022 marks the seventh annual Gracechurch Underwriters Report, an independent ranking of underwriters in the London market. Underwriters are ranked by a cross-section of underwriting peers as well as brokers from main business classes. Based on the number of endorsements received, underwriters are ranked within their respective business class. Firms are also ranked based on the strength of their team across individual classes.
The 2022 report is based on 700 individual underwriter nominations from over 90 insurance businesses.
